Zanjan province has been located on the northwest of the Iranian Plateau and its center is Zanjan city. As geographical unit, Zanjan province has connected the Azerbaijani Plateau to the Qazvin Plain with a gentle slope. The massive dome structure of the Soltaniyeh dome, which is the largest historical dome in the world after the Florence Cathedral and Ayasofya in Istanbul, is one of the tourist attractions of this province. Katale Khor Cave

According to scientific theories and geological maps, Katale Khor is an aquatic-land cave in the heart of Saghizlu Mountainin Eligomusen limestone of the third period of tertiary geological period. It might be about 30 million years old but according to some, it is even more than 120 million years old. Being the habitat of early human, this cave has seven floors, three floors of which have been discovered and there are waterfalls on its different floors. The cressets in this cave are beautifully shaped and some of them are named after those shapes. Some of the most famous icons in this cave are bride and groom icon, marriage cloth, sleeping lion, hound, lion paw and elephant’s foot icons. This cave is also connected to Ali Sadr Cave. It was registered in 1330 but the probing was done in 1365.

Jameh Mosque, Zanjan

Jameh Mosque of Zanjan with four porches is one of the important and elegant mosques in Zanjan that catches everyone’s eyes. Jameh Mosque of Zanjan have been accompanied by a school that were built in the thirteenth Hijri century by one of the sons of Fathali Shah Qajar named Abdollah Mirza Dara who was one of the disciples of Ayat ollah Seyyed Mohammad Mojtahed Sardani. Jameh Mosque of Zanjan is also known as Dara Mosque, Seyyed Mosque, Soltani Mosque and Jom’eh (Friday) Mosque but now it is common as Jameh Mosque. Jameh Mosque of Zanjan was accompanied by a school in the past and was one of the greatest and most elegant mosques in Zanja with four porches. These four porches in mosque scene are more prominent than any other part of the mosque. The porches of Jameh Mosque of Zanjan are symmetrical. Each and every single part of the mosque manifests the art and skills of master Iranian artists. This monument was registered in the list of Iran’s national monuments on 10th of Ordibehesht 1342 with registration number 1056.

Saltmen Museum of Zanjan

Saltmen (Mardan-e Namaki) is a name which has been given to six mummified men discovered in Chehrabad salt mine, Zanjan Province, in the winter of 1993. Among them, there are the bodies of a woman and a teenage boy too. Some of the saltmen have been severely hurt as a result of mine working by bulldozer. In 2008, mine operation stopped and the body of the sixth saltman was left untouched in the mine due to lack of necessary equipment to maintain it. Among discovered men, three of them belonged to Achaemenid period (about 400 BC) and two of them to late periods of Sassanid dynasty (about 400 to 600 AD). Zalfaghari Mansion is a historical monument located in an old neighborhood called "Dalan-e Alti" in the northern side of Sabze Meydan and Jame Mosque in Zanjan. After the transfer of monuments found in Chehrabad salt mine, temporary museum of mummies was created in 2007, and the first museum of archeology of Zanjan opened in Zolfaghari Mansion in 2009. This monument was registered in Iran's National Heritage on March 15, 1997 under the registration number of 1852.

Soltaniyeh Dome

Soltaniyeh is one of the cities of Zanjan Province, located 43 kilometers from Zanjan City. Dome of Soltaniyeh and Öljaitü Tomb are in this city. Molla Hassan Kashi tomb and khanqah of حسام الدن حسن چلبیare other historical monuments of this city. Dome of Soltaniyeh is the tomb of Öljaitü which was constructed from 1302 to 1312 AD in Soltaniyeh City (Ilkhanid capital) and it is considered as an important Iranian Islamic architecture and Azeri style architecture. Dome of Soltaniyeh is one of the most important examples of Ilkhanid architecture that has had a great effect in historical monuments architecture in the world; we can see this influence in the architecture of Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flowers in Florence. After Dome of Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flowers in Italy and Dome of Hagia Sophia in Turkey, Dome of Soltaniyeh is the third largest dome in the world. The dome registered in Iran's National Heritage in 1931. It was also registered in the list of UNESCO world Heritage as the seventh Iranian classic in Tir 24th, 2005.

Jinn Chimney, Mahneshan

In different parts of Iran like Mahneshan County in Zanjan Province, there is phenomenon named Doodkesh-e Jen which is considered as one of the tourist attractions of the area. Doodkesh-e Jen is located 20 kilometers from Mahneshan County and 120 kilometers from Zanjan. In geology, this natural phenomenon is called "Hoodoo". In fact, it is a type of mushroom-like stone created as a result of erosion. It looks like a high thin minaret on which there is another stone. Doodkesh-e Jen and Beheshtan/Mahneshan Castle are the tourist attractions of Zanjan that have been very little up to now. They lie near Behstan Village and Mahneshan County, approximately 110 kilometers from Zanjan.

Behestan Castle

Mahneshan County, located in the west of Zanjan Province, is one of the most affluent and virgin districts of the province, and contains many historical and natural attractions such as a natural lake, several seasonal and perennial streams, towering mountains, gardens, and beautiful fields. It can be said that Mahneshan County is an area in Zanjan Province that has high potential for attracting tourists. There are 184 historical tourist attractions in Mahneshan County, some of which date back to Bronze Age, i.e. 5000 years ago. In comparison with other historical monuments, Quzlu Village and Behestan Castle have been recommended more, i.e. they can attract New Year tourists of Mahneshan County to a great extent. Behestan Castle or Kohan Dezh (old Stronghold) is located in Mahneshan County in Zanjan Province near Behestan Veillage next to Qizil Üzan River. It goes back to the Medes. So far, it has been proved that the castle coincided with Achaemenid period. Behestan Castle has been registered in Iran's National Heritage under the registration number of 1458. However, it is being destroyed due to neglect and being unknown as well as human and environmental factors.

Chalabioghlou Mausoleum or Sheikh Barragh Mausoleum

Khakh-e Morvarid (Pearl palace) is the name of a building from the Pahlavi dynasty located in Mehrshir, district 12 of Karaj municipality. This building was designed and constructed by Wesley Peters and the foundation of Frank Lloyd wright for one million dollars. This palace is now in a bad condition. This mausoleum belongs to the well-known mystic, Sheikh Barragh Baba, from Mevlevi Order and one of the royal confidants of Sultan Mohammad Khodabandeh's court in Ilkhanid era. In addition, archeologists and researchers have attributed this site to Sultan Chalabi and estimated that it was built in 728 AH. Sheikh Barragh or Chalabioghlou Mausoleum, beside which there is a Khanqah related to the same period, is among tower-like mausoleums of Islamic Middle Ages, and it can be compared to Emamzadeh Jafar in Isfahan. Some researchers and archeologists believe that the Khanqah's building preceded Sultan Chalabi Mausoleum, and some of them are of the opposite opinion. This monument was registered in Iran's National Heritage under the registration number of 167. This relic was registered in the list of Iran’s national relics in 2003 with the registration number of 7067.

Dashkasan Temple, Soltaniyeh

Dashkasan Temple is one of the best examples of rock-cut architecture in Iran that goes back to King Arghun, the father of Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh. Dashkasan temple is a unique one in Iran. IT is a temple with dragon design. Tourists think they are visiting a Chinese temple when they see this temple, but this historical monument is remained from Ilkhanid era. The temple is also known as "Dragon Temple" among the tourists. Two raised dragon designs and some Islamic Mihrabs in two sides of the temple in symmetry have adorned the temple.

Rakhtshooy Khaneh of Zanjan

The property of Rakhtshooy khaneh was bought in 1928 by the order of Ali Akbar Tofighi, mayor of Zanjan city. The reason for building Rakhtshooy Khaneh was to build a laundry house for women to have a comfortable and safe covered place to wash loads of clothes and other stuffs. So they can have a convenient and safe place rather than queuing up in the natural springs for washing laundry and dishes during cold winter and hot summer days. You cannot find any place as the resemblance of Rakhtshooy Khaneh’s function; in entire of Iran, so it is something really unique. And it is one of must to do things in Iran, especially if you plan to Travel to North West of Iran. Tourism office of Zanjan made this building as anthropology museum of Zanjan. And you can get an idea of the ladies traditional outfits and jewelry by looking at mannequins of ladies with traditional outfits while they are doing laundry.
